School Annual Education Report (AER)
Dear Parents and Community Members:
We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2010-2011 educational progress for the Mid-Michigan Leadership Academy. The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. The school's report contains information about student assessment, Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact school Superintendent, Aimee LeTarte-Alaniz, for assistance.
The AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting the following web site www.michlead.org or you may review a copy from the Superintendent's office at your child's school.
Adequate Yearly Progress Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) is a year-to-year measure of student achievement on the MEAP and MME in reading and math. AYP also requires schools to achieve a minimum assessment participation rate (95%), and a minimum attendance rate for grades Kindergarten through 8 (90%). The Mid-Michigan Leadership Academy is pleased to announce the school made AYP overall in 2010-11 for the fourth consecutive year. Although we continue to make AYP, the Academy strives for continuous academic improvement in all core academic areas.
Assigning Pupils Pupils are assigned to the Mid-Michigan Leadership Academy during an advertised open enrollment period. All students are eligible to apply. If the amount of students applying during open enrollment exceeds the number allowed by the charter contract, a random selection drawing would be required. After open enrollment, any remaining spots would be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
School Improvement Plan A School Improvement Plan is developed annually throughout the school year by the School Improvement Team. It is modified to meet the current needs of the Academy.
Curriculum The Academy utilizes the Curriculum Crafter Tool to deliver the curriculum. This is a web-based curriculum management and design tool based on the Kent County Collaborative Core Curriculum ("KC4"). The KC4 is an articulated K-12 standards-based curriculum aligned to the Michigan Curriculum Framework. The standards included in the curriculum also include differentiated resources, which assist in the attainment of the standards and help close the achievement gap. Technology is not only integrated within the core curriculum but includes keyboarding, internet, and acquisition and application of basic computer skills. Technology is also utilized in the classrooms, as over half of the general education classrooms have SmartBoards to assist in interactive learning, differentiated instruction, and monitoring student mastery.
The curriculum can be accessed through the website at www.michlead.org.
Parent/Teacher Conferences For the 2010-11 school year, the Academy has had an outstanding 96% attendance rate at Parent/Teacher conferences. Although we have had great turnouts for conferences, the goal is to get parents more actively involved in all areas of their child's education.
